Lilyann found herself racing home. School had been worse than usual. She had been made fun of mercilessly at the hand of her bullies. Even when she was reaching the end of her schooling, the light of escape drawing near, the girls who had taunted her since childhood still got to her some days. But the impending abuse of her father lingering over her head slowed her gait.
The terror and anxiety of being close to the school waned as her grip on reality tightened. She had out run her school bullies, the lesser of two evils. But was running right into the arms of her father. The same father who had blackened her entire body over and over as a child. Showing nothing but anger towards her. And yet she had never purposefully wronged him.
Her head began to pound, so she leaned against the corner of a wall, letting her heart beat return to normal before slipping to the ground, curling up in a ball and trying to think. She couldnt keep running from everyone forever. All she wanted was a warm hug. And as the tears began to slip from her eyes, she could hear a comforting, and relatable tune. It was one of her all time favourite songs, and someone else was singing it.
I don't know where you're going But do you got room for one more troubled soul? I don't know where I'm going But I don't think I'm coming home and I said I'll check in tomorrow if I don't wake up dead This is the road to ruin And we're starting at the end
It was the song she had screamed to the heavens, pleading to have the courage to leave. Yet she knew, that alone she would never make it. And the prospects of having someone to share the silence with made the daydream even sweeter.
She looked up, her waist length blonde locks now tangled in a mess infront of her face. She only had to listen for a moment before realizing where he was, and begin singing along as well. Her heart swelled when he began to sing the harmony almost the second she began. Their voices became one in seconds, and she stood up, looking around to locate the origin of such a lovely voice.
Her head turned to one side, and she peaked around the corner, coming face to face with a homely looking boy.

Lane stepped outside of the local orphanage, the keyboard tucked lightly under his arm. Next to him, was a little boy of about five, JJ. He stepped to the side, standing out of the doorway before sitting down. He set the keyboard in his lap and played a couple lines of harmony before looking back at the boy. "You wanna learn music? This is the way kid."
He took a deep breath before churning out the first few lines of harmony. He then added his own voice. "I don't know where we're going but do you got room for one more troubled soul?" As the crowd slightly gathered around him, he raised his voice to accommodate the people.
Before he knew it, he heard a nearby female voice. Allowing the unknown lady a chance, he lowered his voice to sing the harmony. He looked between JJ and his fingers, noticing the look of amazement on the boy's face.
When the song ended, people went to throw a couple of dollars in the hat. He thanked them before having JJ sit next to him. He then began to show the boy some simple chords. He then saw a pair of legs before him. He looked up, meeting the face with the body. "Sorry, but can I help you with something?" he pulled the keyboard off of his lap before standing to see the girl.

Lily watched, her cheeks tinging red as the boy looked her up and down before speaking to her. As though he had to check if she was worth her time. He was gorgeous. Simple, but amazing. Nothing like the oddballs she saw every day, trying to top each other with colours, hats, stupid fringes all over the place. He was plain. And she liked that...
A soft, trembling smile came to her lips before she could speak, knowing it would all be word vomit if she did. So instead of speaking, she pulled out her purse, taking the moderate amount of cash she had, and setting it beside him, murmuring her thought out words "You two are fantastic vocalist." Before standing up straight once again, smoothing her long blonde locks over her shoulder, adjusing her bookbag on her shoulder, and turning to walk away.

He considered her for a moment. He noticed that she wasn't in all bright colors and in the latest fashions. She was in something rather common, as was he. He saw how she wasn't competing with anyone else to top them in how much money they spent. It impressed him. Showed him that the Capitol stereotype didn't apply to everyone.
He ushered the child inside, glancing at the activities going on inside. He then turned back to her and was having a wad of cash put into his hand. "Listen, thanks but no thanks." He gently out the money back into her hand, curling her fingers around it. "I can't take this. You probably need it more than I really do."

Lily tried to breathe, but felt a lump in her throat as her pulse quickened, eyes dilating when he touched her. Both hands were wrapped around hers, one beneath, ensuring she didnt drop the bills. The other atop, forcing the money into her hand. Her lower lip trembled. It felt as though he was pulsing nervousness into her.
"No... No r-reall-y Its-its f-fine." She flipped her hands upside down, and pulled her hand away, leaving him cupping the money. A glance behind him, and she saw his keyboard still set up. If she ran now, then he wouldnt leave it.
So she did. Bolting away, clutching her school bag close to her stomach until she turned twice. HE would have to stop and grab his own things if he even tried to give chase. The Adrenaline rush began to ebb, and she rounded a third corner, just to make sure before ceasing her running. Now it was all about blending in. How she would do that, she had no idea. Being plain was out of the ordinary here. Everyone around her was brightly coloured. Feathers and prints screaming from every which way. So she took a back alley.
It wasnt hard to slip into it, just follow the flow until she could slip into one. There she stopped to calm herself. Closing her eyes and leaning against the cool brick. Taking inventory of herself. Her fingers trembled still, and she felt like she was in a cold sweat. But when she ran a hand along her hairline, she felt nothing.
Sliding down the wall, she stopped. Something extraordinary had happened, and only now could she relive it. Their voices had become one. Both speaking the same language, which had never happened to her before. The boy, well, Her cheeks blushed when she pulled up a mental snapshot, the man, had a voice of velvet, dropping an octave to harmonize with hers. The song had been a perfect fit. Neither seemed to mesh well with the florescence that was the capitol. The song longed for an escape, and if only for a moment, she found it in him.

He felt the warmth leave his hand the second she pulled her hand away. He called the child back outside to take everything back in and handed him the wad of bills in the process. When he turned back around, she was gone. He whipped his head in both directions, hair falling in his eyes. He pushed it out of his eyes before checking behind him to make sure JJ was inside. When he was sure of everything, he took off in a sprint down the street frantically looking for the blond. He had made the mistake of not learning her name, so calling for her would be useless. He knew the blond hair should've been distinctive yet he couldn't find it.
After he rounded a third corner, he could've sworn that he saw the familiar blond. Without having a name to call her by, he stopped running and began to sing.
"I don't know where we're going but do you got room for one more troubled soul.'"
