        Overall History:  When Iris was 7 years old, her brother took on a horrible disease and died. Before he passed, he promised her that he  would be okay. He obviously was not okay though. She remembers hearing her parents crying when he died in his bedroom, family was          devastated, Iris though had no idea what happened to him until her parents told her he had passed.



When Iris turned 11, her parents got extremely nervous about her first reaping the next year, they couldn't afford the heartache of losing yet another child to the games. They then decided to make her feel as special as possible, tending to her needs whenever possible, her father worked overtime to make enough money to keep the family going, and everything was great for the Ortega family. Until the reaping that year, Iris' best friend Jillian took on a terrible disease and died within three months of obtaining it. Iris then turned into the quiet girl she is now.



Not talking to too many people, the few people she fortunately talked to where some girls that live nearby her little shack of a house. They were all quite close and shared every secret with each other. Though Iris has trust issues, she slowly starts to trust people more when she speaks with these two girls. They helped her be less anti-social and she truly, truly hopes that these two girls could be trusted and clear her of all the issues she has in her life. She was glad she met them, it was by chance after all though.



They all met one day in the center of town, it was dark and one of the girls tripped and fell on the ground. She was hurt and couldn't move her leg. It was lucky that Iris and the other girl were outside at that time. They both had heard the girl yell for help and had went to inspect the problem. Iris and the girl helped the fallen girl up and carried her home. On the way they exchanged names and where they lived, after Iris and her new friend brought the girl home, they both said goodbye and walked to their houses. Both of them walked home convinced they had made a new friend. They all became best friends the next day and still are to this day.

Okay, so, this is exactly the sort of character that I love. I have a thing for socially inept characters; they are, in my opinion, probably the most intriguing sort of characters, as well as the most likely to experience character development. Plus, they're anti-social (moderately speaking), so the likelihood of "we bumped into the street and just started talking AND THEN A FRIENDSHIP WAS BORN!" threads automatically decreases, because a character of this type will most likely keep the conversation short. There's also just some sort of difficulty surrounding them, because these are the types of characters that are more subject to "inner character development" rather than "outer character development", outer being what they go through beyond them and the external perspective of their emotional and physical change in response to various traumas and developments, and inner being more of an exploration of their psyche, what they're really showing, feeling, their inner soliloquy. It's just so much easier to fully characterize them and make them far more intriguing to read and write about, which is why many of my characters are sort of similar to Iris and her inability to communicate socially. But all that's just my opinion, and my opinion would be far better written about if I wasn't being rushed.

So, um, yeah, I really like her. XD However, I feel like you should take the time to explore her more and really make her personality blatant all throughout the application. I mean, I didn't get that she was a shy, slightly traumatized girl until I actually read her history. The only thing in the personality section that alludes to her silent demeanor is her fear of public speaking, which could apply to anyone, really, and for various reasons. So, what I want you to do is look at her personality, and ask yourself: "Why is she afraid of explosives? Why does nature appeal to her? Does she consider being an introvert a crutch? Who is she? Why is she Iris?" So, yeah. Just step right into her, and take a very long stroll through her mind. Have you ever acted on the stage before? Well, this is much like it. It's character building, and this is what makes characters on stage so appealing to the audience: they're well thought out (sometimes excessively so) and they really seem alive, not just the puppet of some random thespian.

So, yeah. She's great, I love her, but let's just give her a little more sparkle and answer a few questions. And I want you to look through the entire application, and just keep asking yourself questions. If you feel that you can read the answer right there, in your application, then continue to the next question; if you have to actually THINK of an answer, then I want you to write that question and answer down on the application. Okay? Okay! Oh, and check for grammar mistakes, too.

Other than that, good job! I can't wait to accept her.
