Carther Ratchford
The sun somehow glared into my bedroom onto my eyes, abruptly waking me up from what could be my last peaceful time to sleep. My eyes were blurry for a moment as I adjusted to the light and adjusted to being awake. The train seemed to be going at a different speed now, maybe we were arriving at our destination. My clothes were already laid out on my bed, washed and ready to be worn. I slipped off the side of the bed and stood still for a minute, looking through my opened window. A breeze rolled in and I felt a chill down my spine. Which is exactly what our mentor told me she felt when her games began. It was weird to think, in a few days time, maybe weeks. I would be having the same feeling. The same feeling that countless kids have had. And few are alive to talk about it. I shut the window and then slip into my new clothes. They were warm, just how I liked them. I open my cabin door only to find our mentor and escort in the main cabin. They seemed to stop talking just as I walked in the door. Could they have been talking about me? Even if they were, what did it matter. Not like it would help me out the next few days. I don't think at least.

We arrived in the Capitol about an hour later, screams made their way onto the train as we pulled up to the station. Crazy looking people took pictures and screamed at the top of their lungs when the doors opened. I froze, they were all insane looking. And then it occurred to me that if I didn't act happy and enthusiastic, I would get no sponsors, which would not be great. I smiled enthusiastically and motioned for the crowd to be louder. The crowd roared with excitement. I waved to the crowd as we walked off of the train down to the station. I shook some hands and gave a few people winks, but nothing more. Peacekeepers arrived and escorted us all through the growing crowd that was raging with excitement. We made our way to the remake center, which was where we were all remade into eye candy for all of Panem. Almost like the Capitol was saying "You're to ugly for our liking, prepare to be made into one of us, or an upgraded version of you" It was odd thinking of it like that. Before I knew it, we were inside the remake center and two Peacekeepers escorted me down a corridor into my room. It was already starting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I opened the door to my room and was greeted by my stylist. She gave me a big smile and asked for me to sit down. I sat down in a chair next to her, across from me on the wall was a mirror. U-Uh miss, can we cover up the mirror? I want it to be a surprise when I see my new look." She nodded a yes and I replied thank you and she began to do her works. We conversed for a while and found out more about each other. Her name was Patricia, she had been the stylist for only a year now but hoped to continue being the stylist in the future. Then she asked about my family, history, what life was like in District 5, etc. She was very cheerful and a bit perky, but she became serious when it was time to do so. When I was finished, she took the blanket off of the mirror. I was dazzled by the way I looked, My hair was done nice, my face was washed and had all of these other features to it, my arms and legs were waxed (which I did not like one bit) and my skin looked like it was, shining possibly. My stylist dressed me up in our district's ceremony uniform. My shirt was silver colored, about the same color as one of the geology machines my dad used, and my pants were the same color. It wasn't much this year, but I'd like to see the other district's uniforms as well. I thanked my stylist and gave her a long hug before a Peacekeeper entered the room and told me it was time to go. I said goodbye to Patricia and shut the door behind me.

I waited on my chariot next to my district partner, she looked the same as I did, but in a silver dress and had on silver high heels. The other tributes looked pretty nice, but I thought that our uniforms were nice too. I fixed my belt so that it didn't feel as loose and noticed that the other tributes were also making sure they were perfect. Good, so I wasn't the only one. Just then, the District 1 chariot started to move forward and I could hear the crowd roar with excitement. The District 4 chariot started to move and then ours did too. When we emerged into the open stadium, I was overcome with both fear and excitement. All of Panem was watching us now, and the Capitolites were screaming at the top of their lungs. I waved to the crowd and gave a wide smile, the roar of the crowd blocked my hearing and I couldn't tell if my district partner had said anything yet. I think she was about as dazed as I was. Our chariot then stopped behind the district 4 chariot and the crowd died down as the chariots stopped moving. It was time for the President to make his annual speech. He welcomed us to the Capitol and wished us all the best of luck. Our chariot again marched forward and we were back into our dressing rooms before I knew it. Patricia congratulated me and gave me a hug. We walked to the apartment complex carefully guarded by Peacekeepers, and went into the district 5 apartment. I made my way to my bed and sat down on it. This is where I would call home for the next few days. Before I was sent to my death.
