District Three had never been very enthusiastic about the games. It wasn't exactly overall seen as bad, just not as important. It was much like a contest and, what with district three being mostly geeks, it was often seen that they were underdogs next to their other districts. 1, 2 and 4 breeding champions more often than rabbits, hell even places like 11 could breed stronger people than most of 3 due to more of the labor.
The Mayor often wondered how exactly he could change this. After all, District 3 had the brains that a lot of the other districts tended to lack but what can you do with intellect when the Hunger Games was more about instinct. With a sigh, The mayor of district three walked outside of her house, adjusted her hat on this hot day of the reapings and within a blink stood upon the stage. She hated this part. The reaping, or rather in her eyes the sentencing as 28 years had passed and yet still the victor's seats upon the stage remained relatively quiet.
"Good Afternoon Citizens of District Three, and welcome to the 28th Annual Hunger Games!" As her mouth moved, the mayor's mind dulled of all emotion. She couldn't spare feeling for all of these innocent children or their ancestors that had died and left this generation with such a mess.
"And so it was decreed that every year each district would offer up two tributes, one male and one female, as payment for the crimes of the Dark Days to compete in an annual Hunger Games.." With a smile, and a last "Happy Hunger Games" The mayor gently placed herself out of the way, sitting down upon a stage chair as she awaited to discover who's gravestones would be built very soon.
Jango Karrera walked up to the main podium with a rather positive smile, having become a new escort for district 3 after the last one had quit after stating that district three was doomed to fail. But Jango didn't think so and so, in his light purple suit, he adjusted his tinted green hair and shook his head before speaking.
"Happy Hunger Games, District 3! Upon receiving no response, Jango awkwardly moved on. "Erm.. Yes, we will now pick out.. the err.. first tribute." With a shy movement, Jango nearly knocked over the reaping ball and, with shaking hands, he hoped he hadn't screwed up his chances before reading the first name.
"Our female tribute is Charlotte Raine!" With a smile, Jango looked across the crowd of children as he saw a figure begin to move. Swiftly, Jango moved on to the other ball and took out a second name. He hoped to god he'd be at least impressing someone out there.
"Our Male Tribute is Nicholas Bind, Everybody!" Offering room for some sort of applause, Jango appeared a little disheartened upon receiving none. Either way, he shook it off before looking into the cameras and smiled, trying to get their attention best he could as they all glued onto the tribute's faces.
"There we have it, folks! This years tributes! And Let the Odds Ever Be.. wait.. Be EVER In Their Favor!!"
