Breakeven (Lanedon and LilyAnn)

[Hero]

I heard a door slam and familiar footsteps beneath me. I wasn't sure what was happening. Where they goin to kill Lily and Jacob? Were they going to kill us all? Who would get sent away? Would we ever see each other again? All these thoughts raced through my head and a door slammed open. The room wasn't very large so the door looked close but looks can be deceiving, right?

I saw that man again. I just saw two others figures behind him. A smaller one, female. And someone on her hip, a child. Thoughts raced in my mind as I tried to piece together who might be here. Lily and Jacob. I pushed against the wall to try and stand. I took a few wobbly steps but made it to the other side of the room. I tried to get past tje larger man in front of me but in my state, he just pushed me over.

I landed on the bad shoulder. I screamed out in pain but again, just another muffled cry. I tried to say Lily's name to let her know I was going to be alright. The man walked over to me and started to reach for my face, with what strength I had left, I bit 3 fingers. He screamed back in pain as he tried to lower the gag. He had gotten it low enough to where I could speak.

"Lily!" I tried to run past the man but ended up taking wobbly steps. I still had my hands behind my back but I had gotten to her, still all in one piece. I just happened to have a black eye, a probably broken and bloody nose, a stab wound where I would bleed out, and possibly a pretty bad concussion. I put my head on her other shoulder, the one that wasn't taken by Jacob. "Don't worry about me. I'll be alright." I put my forehead to Jacob's, waking him up. "Hey little man. Listen, it'll be okay. Mommy and Daddy won't let you get hurt. I promise." I kissed him on the forehead and Lily on the lips. "You have to go. You have to get out of here." You need to get out before I get us all killed. As if I hadn't done enough damage as it is.

[Cham]

Lily saw Lane bound, and he tried to escape it seemed. He bit her father's hand, and rushed toward her, laying his head on her shoulder, then waking Jacob. "Lane listen to me alright" she said, as she griped his jaw, forcing him to look at her. Then as an after thought she turned to her father "Let him out of the bonds. This really isn't necessary. And let me say goodbye..." He nodded and cut him out of the bonds.

He turned to the door, and Lily looked back, ashamed. "He... He is taking me home and sending you two to a district... I don't know where. But this is it..." She whispered. Jacob clutched her neck, and sobbed. She looked up at Lane "He was going to kill us all if I didn't agree..." Her eyes wire lines with tears she hoped to God would not spill. Jacob howled on her hip, and she reached forward to Lane, hugging him around the waist, and leaning up, snatching a single kiss from his lips before the door burst open again "Time is up" her father snarled. She handed Jacob off, and as her father dragged her out the door she screamed "I love you Jacob! I Love you Lane!" then the door slammed shut, and she released the tears, not knowing if they could hear the sobs that wracked her body... A Strange man picked her up, and carried her until she realized her surroundings of her old home...

*Time skippity. 3 weeks and a handful of days*

It was the third day she was allowed to go out by herself, her father finally trusting her to not run off again. What he didn't know was she had packed up her stuff, and hidden it. And she knew the day. Moving day. 2 weeks before, She had snuck in his office, and found two tickets to District 3 Planned out. One adult. One child. It was them. She checked the Times and such. That morning she snuck to his vault, and taken out her promised graduation savings. The ones that had been withheld from her for some reason. Yep... Today was going to be an interesting day.

Hours later she was in position. On the same street corner where they had met, she was standing in a shadow. Waiting for Lane and Jacob to appear. She didn't know how she would approach them, but she had to do something. So she waited...

I walked down the very familiar streets of Capitol as if I hadn't walked them in weeks. And I hadn't. I hadn't seen Lily in 3 weeks. Jacob had come to live with me. And because of me, I had my own security. More like leaders. Lily's dad had put 2 Peacekeepers at my door to make sure no one came in or out. And they succeeded. All to well. The only person who had even stood in the mere threshold of my apartment was Lily's father. And that was to give us our train tickets. District 3. See you all very soon. And that was about 2 weeks ago.

I held my luggage along with Jacobs all in one hand and I held Jacobs hand with the other. I had brought every picture I had of Lily, Jacob, and me all together or just of each other, with me. I wanted to show Jacob where I had first met his mommy. Where I had first fallen in love. When I had first ever been happy. I had found out happily that the street where I first met her, was on the way to the station. I had stopped on that same corner where I had seen her, pulling my keyboard into my lap. "Jacob. Come here. Sit next to me. I want you to hear this. I first met your mommy on this street. I named it 'Lily Street', after her. Because I loved her that much. And you want to hear the song I was playing when we first met?" He nodded, lite hits of hair falling into his eyes. I brushed them back. I started letting my fingers slide over the keys, the same way they had before. I sang the same tune I had sung a million times before. Breakeven.

[Cham]

Lily had been just about to step forward when Lane pulled out his key board. This award too crazy. Did he know she was there? Was he warning her of followers? No. He was playing a simple song. One he obviously knew by heart. His fingers slid effortlessly over the keys, and she heard his voice singing the first line. She remembered exactly where she had come in. And that's where she added her voice. voice it was soft and silky. The exact pitch as it had been before, and even after weeks, their voices harmonized perfectly.

She stepped from the shadow into the light, several tears slipped from her eyes. Lanes back was to her, but Jacob scurried over to her, pushing past strangers legs. Lily knelt on the ground and she scooped him up into her arms, spinning him around in a circle. He buried his head into her neck, what had been sobs to begin with were now broken down into tears as he softly said the same words over and over "We missed you mommy, We missed you." She couldn't hold back her own tears as she picked up her bag, and walked over to Lane who seemed stunned "Hello darling" she said softly "Ready to escape?" She asked...

[Hero]

That's when I heard it. Right fret the first like, like it had always been. After every first line, her voice would join mine and we would harmonize like we had practiced for weeks. I knew it was her. She stepped for the shadows when we had finished. I was taking the applause but Jacob had seen her. He ran past everyone to get to her. When he found her, she picked him up and spun him around, just like she would always do. And I loved it. I didn't see her but I was worried about Jacob. I set my keyboard off to the side to try and go after him, to find him attached to Lily's side. Tears were streaming down her cheeks, and tears of my own were about to start flowing as well. I ran towards her through the crowd of people, screaming her name. When I reached her, regardless of Jacob, I ran up to her and kissed her. Right in front of everyone who was willing to stop and stare. Once I was done, I looked down and saw her own bags packed. She was coming with us. "Ready to escape?" I took her hand. "You're going with us? That is amazing. I haven't seen you in weeks. I'm surprised you haven't started seeing someone else. You see what happened to us.." But I was glad she came back. That she still cared. I pressed her forehead against mine. "I love you Lily. C-Can I ask you something?" I reached in the pocket of my leather jacket, searching for the box that held the ring, griping it tightly. Not knowing what to do.. 

[Cham]

He kissed her. Lane didn't stop for several moments, and Lily didn't care one bit. In fact she kissed him right back. when he unglued himself from her, he was rambling, then all of the sudden down on one knee. She gasped, and took a half step back "You didn't" was all she could whisper before the tears were too much for her to speak. Jacob gripped her neck tightly, and with one hand she wiped her eyes, trying to get a hold of herself. People had stopped with a amused sort of look on their faces. Lane pulled out a velvet looking box, and Lily held out a hand. Was this really happening???

[Hero]

"I-I know that we both barely know each other but.. I-I've loved you ever since I first saw you." She gasped and took a step back, saying that I didn;t. "Lily, I did." I stayed on that knee and slid the ring on her finger. I smiled and stood up. I stepped forward and kissed her like I was never going to see her again. I probably wouldn't. But I wasn't going to let it.  "Lily, you seem scared of this. What's wrong?" I took her hand, knowing perfectly well that anyone who knew us and her dad would go blab about it to everyone else. And I would probably have another near death expirience again. Another death expirience for me. I prayed not for Lily and Jacob. Not for them..

[Cham]

Lily was speechless at first, but his lips on hers kept her from having to say anything. She leaned her head up and kissed him back passionately. Her arms for perfectly around his neck. Her body molded to his as though it was made to be there.

"Lily... you seem scared of this. What's wrong?" he asked her. She shook her head softly "I'm only scared of being caught. We need to leave now." Feeling the tickets in his pocket she said "But not district 2. He will find us there. I have some money, we need to choose a new district to hide out in for a while." Her voice was low and urgent in his ear. But when she finished her warning, She pulled away from his ear and kissed him again, feeling Jacob tugging on her coat jacket. She picked him up and muzzled his nose "I'm not scared of this... I'm overjoyed really. I can't wait to be a mommy again"

[Hero]

"Getting caught? We won't." She kept saying that we need to find another district that wasn't District 2. Personally, I had no intention of going to District 2. "How about District 3, darling? It's perfect to me." Anywhere was perfect as long as she was with me.

I smiled as Jacob kept tugging on her sleeze. I looked over at Jacob and held my arms to him. "Show momy that you know how to fly!" Jaocb smiled and lept out of Lily's arms and into mine, swinging him around as if he were a jet plane. I put him on my hip with one hand holding him while the other arm made its way around lily's waist. "It's wonderful, isn't it? That we might be a happy family again?" It was wonderful. Because we will be a new family again.

[Cham]

"How did I know you would say that?" Placing a hand on his jacket, pulling him close for another kiss as Jacob planted on on each of their cheeks. She tickled him for a moment before kissing the young boys cheek. "Sounds perfect" she said softly. His arm slid around her waist, pulling her close once again "We will be happy. At least I know I will be. I'm finally where I want to be"

Lily picked up her suitcase and slung her backpack across her shoulders and took one of Jacobs small hands as he reached for the other "Ready baby?" He nodded and squeezed "Ready mommy! Ready!" She couldn't help but smile as they made their way to the ticket booth...

[Hero]

"Well, I just have that little bit of intuition." I smiled as Jacob planted one more kiss on her cheek. I held her close as I began making our way to the ticket booth. "And I know we will be happy. We will be together again." I stood in front of the man working the ticket booth, telling him I need 3 tickets for D3. 2 adults. 1 child. He asked for the payment and I handed him the amount needed as he handed us the tickets. I stepped out of the way. I handed the tickets to Lily and Jacob and kept one for myself. I leaned down and kissed the top of her head. I sat down at that corner, awaiting the train. I pulled my keybord over on my lap and started playing the melody to Breakeven. "Remeber this Lily?" I hoped so.. 

[Cham]

"I'll never forget it" after a moment the lyrics began curling off her tongue. It was soft and sweet, inviting the listener to relax. Jacob took her hands and they danced, she knelt down and he spin her, dipped her. Lily giggled. "I can't remember the last time I had this much fun" she looked over to Lane watching her, and crawled over to him, kissing his lips softly, "Thank you... for everything"

[Hero]

I continued to just play the melody, letting Lily sing. I laughed as Jacob took her hands as started dancing with her. Hen Lily was done, she crawled over to me and kissed me, thanking ms for all of this. I kissed her cheek lightly and went to whisper in her ear. "I couldn't have done this without you." Jacob ran over to me and sat down on my other side, asking for the piano. I set it o his lap as he began playing the exact same melody. I stood up I'm front of Lily and offered her my hand. "Shall we?" I picked her up and began spinning her all on that corner, people stopping to stare at the young couples happiness.

[Cham]

Jacob would never cease to amaze Lily. Such talent for such a young child. Granted was only the melody he was playing, but for a 3 year old? It was amazing. Lily took Lanes hand lightly and was pulling into the security of his arms. She place her other hand on his shoulder, and felt his arm around her waist, pulling her flush against him. She had to stand on tip toe to kiss his lips softly. "You wouldn't have had to do any of this without me. You have gotten kicked out if it wasn't for me..." She frowned for a moment, but a smile creeper back. He didn't exactly seem to mind the current situation. "I love you" She whispered as she set her head on his shoulder "So much..."

[Hero]

I laughed as everyone in the street at that moment had stopped. People were applauding and marveling at Jacob's talent. It only took the melody and the heart of a 3 year old. I watched her pull herself closer to me, standing on tip toe to kiss me. As if it was for the need of air, I kissed her back. I was just glad she was back in my arms. Just glad that now the three of us could maybe be happy somewhere other than here. "I know I wouldn't Lily but I was afraid that I had lost you. After your dad tore us apart, my life feel apart. Because of you, I finally felt like life was actually worth living. And I love you too Lily." He kissed her forehead one last time before her pulled away. He took her hand and watched the approaching train. He motioned to Jacob who took his place next to him. Finally. A happy family.

[Cham]

A bright blush set on her cheeks, and she smiled, hugging him. The only reassurance she could really give was laying her hand on his chest and whispering "You can't lose what you have in here..." his lips rolled over her forehead, and she stepped back, grasping his hand and beckoning to Jacob who took his place next to daddy.

She picked up her suitcase and moved forward, not looking back. She would never look back on the life that had been a living hell. This was her life. As a wife and mother. Perhaps there would be some more kids soon... But first they needed to escape. She boarded the train and took a seat in a cabin they would share if the other takers showed up. Which they didn't. So as the train pulled away, she picked up Jacob, he wrapped his little arms around her, smiling and chatting in the little language he knew. She scooted closer to Lane and put her head on his shoulder.

This was the only place she ever wanted to be.

[Hero]

He sat in the cabin with one arm wrapped around Lily and the other playing with Jacob. He took one last look out of the train at the receding city into a new district. Into a new life. He kissed her her one last time as he watched the outsider he shuddered in fear as the sudden burst of uniforms came into his view. He pulled jacob out of Lilys lap and pushed the two of then into the floor. "Lily, there are men outside here waiting to take you away from me again. You stay low and get out of here. Now." I stood and tried to block the view of Lily and Jacob. Not again.Im not losing them again.

[Cham]

Jacob was knocked to the floor. Lily jumped toward him, grabbing their belongings. The train had barily passed out of the Capitol when she looked out the window. Lily scrambled out of the cabin, She ran through several, locking each door behind her. Rationally she knew Lane was a lost cause for the moment, and her sole goal was to save Jacob. She set Jacob on a set, and covered him with a blanket. Then using her sturdy boot she kicked out the window. Glass flew and the wind was intense as the train began picking up speed she gathered Jacob in her arms, and threw out the suitcases. She curled into a ball as she jumped out the window.

When she hit the ground, she heard a crack and pain radiated through her arm. Letting out a scream of pain. Laying there for a moment until she could breath regularly. Jacob wiggled in her arms and she hushed him, scanning the Windows for Lane. Yes, she saw him! Waving her good arm she hoped She had caught his attention...

[Hero]

He watched in horror as Lily struggled to save herself and Jacob. Once she got herself and Jacob safe, he herd the unsettling crunch of her arm against the ground, as well as Jacob's crying. He grabbed his stuff and anything the other 2 might've left behind. He jumped from yeh train, already up to a steady 80 mph. He flew to the ground. He paused and breathed an incredible sigh of relief. He was alive and hasn't broken anything. Now that was over with. Now he just had to find Lily.

He searched around and found her far behind him. Soldiers slowly walked up behind her but not before he could get there. He helped her into his lap, trying to make sure he didn't hurt her arm any more than she already had. Jacob was in her lap as well. Lane pulled him into one arm and tried to comfort him. The Peacekeepers surrounded them. He looked down in defeat and didnt bother to put up a fight, even though people stopped and stared.

[Cham]

Lily watched Lane leap. It was as though someone had slowed down time. A breath of relief as she saw him safe. Struggling to move, but the pain in her arm was too much. She could only cling to Jacob tightly until she felt arms around her. At first she struggled, assuming the worst. But a glimpse at the loving face of her fiancee calmed her somewhat. Cradling Jacob between them her head on Lanes shoulder. she tried to breath steadily through the intense pain that radiated through her arm. The lower half of it bent awkwardly. Trying not to move it at all as the men formed a circle around them.

They were forced to stand and Jacob cried out as he was nearly forced from her arms. But a whithering look from her caused the Peacekeeper to release him. He fled back into her arms. Clinging to her front. She Supported him with one arm, and walked... Where were they going...

[Hero]

He offered to take Jacob from her so she could walk better and not worry about her arm. Jacob buried his head in his shoulder and processed to cry. He pulled Lily closer on his arm and Jacob closer in his chest. He leaned down to Lily and whispered in her ear, "it'll be alright. I promise." He smiled and tried to lighten the feeling in his stomach by humming the one song that had brought them closer together. Breakeven. He began lightly humming the chorus. He received a look from one Peacekeeper that told him to stop. He just hummed louder and louder until he set Jacob on the ground and held his hand and started singing. He was waiting for Lily to join him but she didn't. Maybe the pain was too much for her. He paused a moment from his signing and kissed her, right in front of everyone, just as he had done at the orphanage. No shame.

[Cham]

Lane was so thoughtful. Taking Jacob to lighten the burden. Her arm screamed in pain. Gritting her teeth, trying to lose herself in the music as Lane pulled her against him, but she couldnt. It hurt So. Badly. Tears pricked the edge of her vision, but she snuffled and wiped them away. All she wanted was to make a new home... Feel love. Just for once.

Lanes humming turned into Lyrics, and Jacob joined in. But she just couldnt. Her mouth was preoccupied gritting her teeth to give her something else to think about. It almost dulled the pain in her arm, the grinding of her teeth... Almost.

She took Lanes unoccupied hand, and squeezed, trying to transfer some amount of pain through that. It did help... A little... But he seemed to understand from that. Turning to her and kissing her passionatly. A little awkwardly she kissed him back. Focusing on the feel of his lips on hers.

[Hero]

Jacob stood beside them, taking in the wonderment of what real love looked like. He took the arm that wasn't hurt and put it around him. He took her broken arm and ever so lightly placed it on his chest. He kept his hand over hers, trying to give her something else to focus on. He tried to get her to focus on the fact that even in these circumstances, he would always love her. He smiled into the kiss. He pulled awy for a moment. "Lily, I love you." He whispered in her ear. He kissed her forehead and pulled her into him, without trying to hurt her arm. They began to slow dance right on the street corner. The Peacekeepers stopped and tried to pull them away from each other. He just ran back to her and put his arms back around her. "I'll never leave you."

[Cham]

For a moment everything seemed perfect. The kiss. His gentle caress. The dance... Then it fell as they jerked him back. Jacob screaming, holding onto Lane who took one of the guards down to flee back to her. She held to him tightly this time, little tears that she choked back, kissing him quickly and whispering "Lane i love you... So much..." Another kiss this time lingering. When the guard touched her, she turned on him, screaming "WERE NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG SO DONT F***ING TOUCH ME AGAIN" Feeling Lanes hand on her arm, pulling her back against him so she didnt rip his head off.

[Hero]

"Lil," he whispered against her. "Just calm down boo." He rested his chin lightly on her head. "Everything's gonna be alright." He took one hand rim her waist and motioned for Jaco to start running down the nearby alley. He took his cue and ran as fast as his three year old legs could carry. The men around them didn't even notice. He whispered to Lily and told her what the plan was. He pulled away from her and have her one lay kiss one her forehead. He pulled her to the side and have her the que to run. The men still didnt notice. He then waited until she was a few yards in front of him until he took of running as well. They were finally free.
