Carther Ratchford
So this was it, we were officially going down the path of certain death. There was a slight chance we could win this year. But alliances would be broken, friend's who knew each other in the same district would turn on each other. And the outcome; one survivor. Twenty three others dead. District five never won anyways, any district above 4 was pretty much dead before we even started. I sit here on one of the red cushions looking out at the landscape. I could've escaped this, I could've ran away from the district. I could've died. But it didn't matter now. I was practically dead so what was the point of even thinking about "What ifs." The district escort doesn't seem to care about us or anything else that has to do with district five as far as I can tell. But maybe this was my chance, to be known as something more than my dad's little helper. I could be known as much more than that. So that would be my goal. To be known as something better than I am now, before I'm taken out.
I see a bird flying through the trees and wish I could be that bird. Free to be or do anything I wanted to. That's the life I want. Sometimes, I wish I was a capitolite. They had everything they could ever hope for. They don't have their kin sent off to kill each other. They get to watch, and ENJOY us killing one another and suffering. That's why it's not fair. I stand up and walk over to my relatively large room. The room was nice looking with a closet, a bed and a view of the wilderness or whatever was beside us. I laid down on the bed and stared up at the ceiling. I had barely talked to my district partner. We could strategize before the games happened, we could even just hangout and pretend we weren't being sent to die. Then a thought occurred to me. I should make allies in the games. They could back me up in a fight. We'd all have to die at some point or another, but at least we wouldn't be killed off first. I hope.

I awoke again at sunset right before it was time for dinner. Someone knocked on the door and told me it was time for dinner and I rolled out of my bed. I opened my closet to find absolutely nothing, so I kept on the clothes I already had on and opened the door into the main cabin. The only person seated at the table was our district mentor. Then it hit me. She was the one who caught me when I was in the Victor's Village. Maybe I wasn't so alone after all. I sat down in a chair on the opposite side of our mentor and nodded a hello. We sat there and waited for our girl tribute and district escort to arrive.
